It has taken forever, but CootieGirl is finally getting the hang of potty-training. She no longer fights in the morning when we ask her to sit on the potty upon waking up. In fact, she now gets up and goes straight in to the bathroom on her own. On many an occasion over the weekend she told us in advance that she had to go potty. Most notably was on Monday when I took her with me to the vet’s office while the pets got their updated vaccinations.
We were waiting for the vet to become available and she turned to me and said, “Mama, I have to go potty.” I told her that there was no potty available and could she hold it. She nodded, but then a few moments later she said, “Mama, I have to go potty.” I asked the receptionist if we could use their bathroom, and she directed us to the staff bathroom in the back office. CootieGirl promptly did what she needed to do – and I was pleased that she had been able to hold it for a few minutes until I could get her to a bathroom.
Just before we left the vet’s office (over an hour later) she again said, “Mama, I hafta go potty,” but at this point I was literally putting her into the van, so I couldn’t do anything about it. But I was glad she told me in advance nonetheless.
Once we arrive in South Carolina I plan on removing the pull-ups from the equation and plan on having her just wear regular underpants and clothes. I figure it should only take a few days of making a mess of herself before she’s totally done with diapers altogether.
Then we can concentrate on getting CootieBoy out of diapers. I’m sick of buying diapers.
